In the Burlingame Avenue boutique, opened in July 2009, a Big Sur vibe was the predominant inspiration for modernist Los Angeles architect Barbara Bestor. She suspended striking, whitewashed beams from the ceiling and lined the walls with diagonal planks of reclaimed barn redwood in this suburban location halfway between San Francisco and Palo Alto. Trina Turk’s first and only northern California outpost features a floor-to-ceiling glass exterior with dynamic and playful show windows, revitalizing retail in the neighborhood. Bestor, who also designed Trina’s showrooms in Los Angeles and New York, has mimicked some of these same features in the newly-expanded Palm Springs flagship boutique.
